Correlating neural activity with visual awareness

• The ‘negative’ approach (Crick & Koch)

  • In all areas there is activity that does not correlate with awareness: V1, dorsal stream in blindsight, ventral stream for masked stimuli, frontal cortex in masking…

• The ‘positive’ approach (f.i. Logothetis)

  • Find the NCC by recording from many areas until you find cells whose activity corresponds 1:1 with awareness
