Roadmap
Why Quantum Physics?
The Measurement Problem.
Stapps dualistic model + experiment
Penroses ORCH OR model + exp.
Transcendental aspects of Consciousness
Notes:
So what is our roadmap today?
First I will give some reasons more orl ess adhoc that people have used globally to argue that classical or newtonian physics is less suitable to deal with the phenomenon of consciousness than quantum physics.
After that I will discuss the measurement problem in quantum physics. This problem illustrates quite clearly that in quantum physics in contrast to newtonian physics we are forced to take into considerations ourselves as a part of the system.
I will first try to give a crash course in QP of one slide. Then we will see how this results in the question of the defintiion of a measurment.
Both models that I discuss posit a solution for this problem. In the first one, Stapps model, the solution is called subjective reduction of the statevector.
In the second model of Penrose and Hameroff the solution is called the objective reduction of the state vector.
After discussion of these two models I will sketch two experiments that I am doing to testthe models.
If we have some time left I would like to discuss some very controversial evidence which might in the future put some constraints on any model of consciousness and which possibly would also argue for a quantum physical approach.
